Ayahuasca

(Banisteriopsis caapi) Sacred plant brew used in traditional Amazonian ceremonies, containing DMT and MAO inhibitors*; known for its profound visionary experiences, spiritual insights, and deep emotional healing.

Ayahuasca is traditionally made by pounding the Banisteriopsis caapi, or yagé vine, combining it with the Psychotria viridis, or leaves of the chacruna shrub, and cooking them together for up to 24 hours. The decoction, or tea is ingested by all parties—participant(s), healer(s), and facilitator(s)—during a ceremony.

* It's vitally important to note that the use of these substances should only be approached responsibly and with intention. Do your own research and seek guidance from trained professionals, as some plant medicines and psychedelics can have significant effects on individuals' mental and physical well-being. For example, some of these are contraindicated for people taking monoamine oxidase-inhibiting harmala alkaloids (MAOIs) or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

  1. The retreat center I chose in October 2022 was Soltara (specifically, its location in the Peruvian Amazon, which is no longer active). I write about my experience with Ayahuasca in HEAL to LEAD, and I welcome questions and conversations about it. I wholeheartedly believe in Soltara’s mission, the integrity with which it operates and is guided, and its focus on integration post-ceremony. There is a link and discount code below for those who feel called to the medicine. As an ambassador, I do receive compensation for these referrals.

To learn more, visit https://soltara.co/?ref=odnhnmj. If you decide to book, use code “HEALTOLEAD” for $250 toward your experience.

    About Soltara
Located in Costa Rica, Soltara Healing Center specializes in transformative healing through the use of Amazonian plant medicine, ayahuasca. Guided by indigenous Peruvian Shipibo healers and collaborating with experienced clinical psychologists, therapists, and distinguished advisors, including Dennis McKenna, Dr. Gabor Maté, and Bia Labate, the center offers a uniquely integrative approach.

Providing a secure and nurturing environment, Soltara welcomes individuals seeking personal growth and healing within the context of an indigenous tradition deeply rooted in the history, practice, and cosmology surrounding ayahuasca. The center’s retreat programs (5 nights, 7 nights, and 12 nights) incorporate ayahuasca ceremonies, supportive embodiment practices, and a distinctive preparation and integration program to empower guests in their long-term healing journey.
